Hello, it's nice to meet you! My name is Raven, I am a college student and aspiring chef. My hobbies are watching movies/shows, listening to music (lots of K-Pop haha) and podcasts (mostly true crime/informational) and reading books.
I've been a fan of films for about 5 years. My journey started with watching Rashomon (1958) for one of my classes. It fascinated me how film could be so cool, so I randomly watched Breakfast At Tifanny's (1961) after then became a huge fan of Old Hollywood. I started with Audrey Hepburn's filmography, then stumbled onto Cary Grant's, who eventually became my favorite Old Hollywood actor. Later on, I joined Twitter to find people with similar interests and expanded my interest to all sorts of films in general.
With Filipino films, I first explored them when an exhibit on Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal opened in my college. The exhibition had a mini theatre in it, and I watched some of these iconic directors' works there. I then got into 20th century Philippine cinema for a while after that. I bingewatched a few more Brocka and Bernal films, then watched a few Nida Blanca ones. After that, it was only during the pandemic that I was able to revisit them again.
I randomly re-watched Kakabakaba Ka Ba? (1980) with my siblings, and that was what reignited the flame. I also met a few more friends who were also into/getting into Philippine films at the time, and that was what sent me down the Philippine film rabbithole. Philippine films will always have a special place in my heart, because it is part of my culture as a Filipino and I know that there are so many films that are underrated or outshined by the mainstream. With all that in mind, I decided to be an advocate of promoting Philippine cinema because I love it very much.
In the middle to all of that is Christopher de Leon. I have been asked before, why him? To me, it is just like being asked why the sky is blue, or why grass is green. My favorite actors before getting into Boyet were Daniel Day-Lewis, Cillian Murphy and Tony Leung who are all amazing at their work, especially drama. I guess I was mostly drawn by that (and that they are more than twice my age lol), but I don't know, I feel like I got love-potioned (ginayuma) from watching Kakabakaba Ka Ba? (1980)? HAHAHA
For me, Boyet is just amazing. He had mentioned in an interview that he remembers a girl telling him that she was attracted to his talent and what he could do with it, and that resonated with me because I think that I feel the same way. He is not only a great actor, but a great singer as well, which further fueled my attraction. I also love how Boyet loves his work so much and how passionate he is about it especially because he's been active all these years. I personally think he was really born for all of this and thank God for letting him share his talents to the world.
Nowadays, most people (myself in the past included) probably know him for his angry dad roles in teleseryes, but I want people to know about him beyond that. He has an astounding line of work, consisting of about 160 films and numerous TV series, throughout the years since the '70s and my love and appreciation for all of that became the culmination of this blog.
I started collecting magazines and other things related to Boyet recently and decided to make this blog as a compilation for them, and I may do some writing from other sources as well. I hope that people would continue to love and discover more about Boyet through this blog, as I navigate through my journey as a member of Youth for Christopher de Leon. I hope you all have a good time here and let us all appreciate the blessings of Boyet's illustrious career :)
